Want to make a difference in your community? Interested in becoming more involved in the day-to-day business of your local government? Are you thinking about running for a seat on the Township of Springwater Council?

Voting Day is Monday, October 22, 2018. Nomination for candidates for the 2018 Municipal Elections opens on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. You can register in person at the Office of the Clerk (2231 Nursery Rd, Minesing) between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The Nomination Period closes on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 2 p.m.

Eligible Springwater voters will elect a number of different positions on Voting Day, including:

One (1) Mayor

One (1) Deputy Mayor

Five (5) Ward Councillors (one for each of Wards 1 to 5)

Canadian citizens aged 18 or older on or before Voting Day, who are residents or property owners in Springwater, or are the spouse of residents and owners, and who are not prohibited from voting under any law are eligible to run for office.

The following people are disqualified from running for and/or from holding office as a Member of Council:

  • A judge of any court
  • A member of the Provincial Legislature, the Federal House of Commons or Senate who has not resigned from their office by the close of nominations(proof of resignation must be provided by the close of nominations or the Town Clerk cannot certify the nomination)
  • A candidate who failed to file the required financial statement in the last municipal elections

The term of office for the next Council is Saturday, December 1, 2018 to Monday, November 14, 2022.

Township of Springwater Employees

Township of Springwater employees who wish to run for Council must take an unpaid leave of absence before filing a nomination paper (employees must provide the Town Clerk with proof that they have taken a leave of absence).
