Climate Change Presentation by David Phillips of Environment Canada

Prior to the Council Meeting, David Phillips a Senior Climatologist for Environment Canada, provided an informative and entertaining presentation on the effects of climate change in Canada. Through his presentation, Mr. Phillips explained how severe weather related incidences are increasing, the effects of climate change and how humans are playing a role. He also provided predictions for future weather trends and how society will need to adapt to the changing conditions.

JavaWockies Presentation

The JavaWockies, Springwater’s local robotics team, presented to Council on the success of their initial year of competing as a team. The JavaWockies received a grant from the Township through the Springwater International Competition Grant in May of 2017 and used the donation to assist with the costs of attending the FIRST World Championship Robotics Competition in St. Louis, Missouri. Over 40,000 people attend the competition each year with teams competing from around the world.

Community Improvement Plan Application Approved

Council approved an application received through the Township’s Community Improvement Plan for a façade improvement at 31 Queen Street West. Through the program Council is able to approve 50% of the total project costs, up to a maximum of $5000. The cost of the façade improvement is quoted at $12,513 and Council approved a grant of $5,000, representing a 39.96% contribution.

Tender Awarded

Norfield Construction Inc. was awarded the contract for the construction of the Fire Station 2 / Public Works Yard 1 Renovation and Expansion in the amount of $716,000 plus taxes.
