Flags at the Township of Springwater Administration Centre have been lowered to half-mast in recognition of the passing of Don Allen, who served as Deputy Mayor for the Township of Springwater from 2014 to 2018 and as Mayor from 2018 to 2022.

Flags will remain lowered until the funeral service has taken place.

On Saturday, January 17, 2026, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Springwater Fire and Emergency Services responded to a reported structure fire on Peter Street in Elmvale.

Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a residence with heavy flames, significant smoke and reduced visibility. It was initially unclear if any occupants were inside the home.
