Come discover some of the best trails in all of Ontario! Home to one of the most extensive multi-use trail networks, Simcoe County offers a challenge for riders of all abilities and styles. Whether touring with friends or enjoying the fresh air with your family, there's a route for you.

    Explore routes

    North Simcoe Rail Trail

    Difficulty: Easy
    Length: 47 km (each way)
Start: Pinegrove Road near Hwy 90 or Phelpston roadside parking

The North Simcoe Rail Trail follows the route of the North Simcoe Railway, which was built in 1878 and primarily served lumber business on Georgian Bay. The trail now offers stunning views over the Minesing Swamp and the Mayer’s Marsh, both excellent birding spots, and historic Fort Willow and its Nine Mile Portage Recreational Trail. The trail connects the Tiny Trail in the north with the Ganaraska Hiking Trail in the south.

    Elmvale "Bakery" Extension

    Difficulty: Moderate
    Length: 37 km
Start: Wasaga Beach RecPlex – 1724 Mosley Street

If you have a sweet tooth then Elmvale is the place to be! This route extends the Iron Bridge route through moderately flat terrain and small valleys, which will take you to downtown Elmvale to grab something sweet mid-ride at a local restaurant or bakery. A bike repair station is located at the Elmvale Gateway Parkette on the corner of Yonge and Queen Street West.

This route also connects to the “Ontario Lake County” cycling routes if you would like to explore other areas of Simcoe County. With a full belly and full bottle of spring water, it's just rolling hills, farm fields and views of the Niagara Escarpment back to Wasaga Beach for your after-ride swim!

    Simcoe County Loop Trail
The Simcoe County Loop Trail is a 160-kilometre loop that travels through nine municipalities, reaches three major bodies of water, including Georgian Bay, Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching. The scenic loop is primarily on off-road, multi-use rail trails. See the Simcoe County Loop Trail Map for details.

    Mountain biking

There are many mountain bike centres and community trails in Simcoe County. Simcoe County Mountain Bike Club builds and maintains recreational mountain bike trails for bikers in our region. Membership fees contribute to the creation of single track bike trails and stewardship. Check out trail maps and register for the season today!

    Safety tips

As more and more cyclists take to the roads, it is important for motorists and cyclists to work together to ensure that our roadways are safe for everyone.

    Cyclists

    Share the road safely by:

    • stopping at all stop signs
    • leaving the left half of the lane clear when riding side-by-side to allow drivers to see the road ahead for safer passing
    • group riding in tight, predictable and small formations that make it easier for vehicles to pass
    • wearing highly visible clothing or strong lights to be seen early

Find more information on the Share the Road website.

    Drivers

    Pass cyclists safely by:

    • passing only when the oncoming lane is clear
    • being patient, two abreast cycling is legal
    • leaving a minimum of 1 m space between a cyclist and your vehicle at all times, even when passing

Find more information on the Share the Road website.

    Trail etiquette
    • Show courtesy to all trail users – slow down when approaching pedestrians
      • Pedestrians always have the right of way
      • Pass on the left when overtaking others and sound a warning by bell or voice
    • Stay on the trail – preserve the natural vegetation and private property
    • Stay to the right – obey all posted signs and warnings
    • Do not litter – take out what you bring in
