City of Barrie and Township of Springwater Execute Compensation Agreement for Boundary Adjustment

The City of Barrie and the Township of Springwater have executed an agreement that establishes clear and comprehensive compensation for Boundary Adjustment lands subject to Provincial Bill 76.

The agreement is the result of extensive collaboration and negotiation between the municipalities, with a shared focus on responsible growth, efficient service delivery, and long-term regional planning.

Under the agreement, the City of Barrie will provide financial compensation to the Township of Springwater that accounts for both the value of the lands being transferred, and the long-term municipal revenue impacts associated with the adjustment.

Under the agreement, the City of Barrie will provide financial compensation to the Township of Springwater as follows:

• Approximately $22 million in total compensation to the Township of Springwater, paid in installments through to 2030.
• An additional $850,000.00 dedicated for Economic Development resources and initiatives within the Township of Springwater over the next 5 years.
