Safety tips

As more and more cyclists take to the roads, it is important for motorists and cyclists to work together to ensure that our roadways are safe for everyone.

Share the road safely by:

  • stopping at all stop signs
  • leaving the left half of the lane clear when riding side-by-side to allow drivers to see the road ahead for safer passing
  • group riding in tight, predictable and small formations that make it easier for vehicles to pass
  • wearing highly visible clothing or strong lights to be seen early

Find more information on the Share the Road website.

Pass cyclists safely by:

  • passing only when the oncoming lane is clear
  • being patient, two abreast cycling is legal
  • leaving a minimum of 1 m space between a cyclist and your vehicle at all times, even when passing

Find more information on the Share the Road website.

  • Show courtesy to all trail users – slow down when approaching pedestrians
    • Pedestrians always have the right of way
    • Pass on the left when overtaking others and sound a warning by bell or voice
  • Stay on the trail – preserve the natural vegetation and private property
  • Stay to the right – obey all posted signs and warnings
  • Do not litter – take out what you bring in
