        Outdoor Rink Guidelines
Outdoor rinks are open daily from late December to March, weather permitting.
      • Registration is not required to use outdoor rinks. Rinks are available for recreational use. Some rinks do have scheduled time slots for free (pleasure) skating and shinny. Please see location specific details below or posted at your local community rink.
      • Weather permitting, outdoor rinks are open daily 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., locations without lights are open until dusk
      • Outdoor rinks are unsupervised. Users of the outdoor rink facilities do so at their own risk, and therefore, voluntarily assume all risks associated with use. The Township of Springwater does not assume responsibility for related risks or injuries. Outdoor equipment/structures are not sanitized.
      • Maintenance closures: All rinks are subject to weekly closures for regular maintenance. Please respect the closure and maintenance times of our volunteer crews.
      • Changerooms or change huts are not available for use. Picnic tables/benches will be on-site for skaters to put on and remove their skates.

      • Please respect all rules and help keep our rinks a safe and fun place for all to enjoy leisure skating.
      Outdoor Rink Locations & Hours

Dedicated Community Volunteers work hard to prepare the outdoor rinks for your enjoyment. Please stay off the rinks if they are marked as closed to ensure damage is not done to the bases. Closure signs are posted at each location for unsafe conditions or during maintenance and flood times. Rinks are open weather dependant. Please stay off the rink when Closed Signs are posted at each location.

Outdoor community rinks are for all users to share and enjoy, please abide by Public Skating times and share the ice fairly at all other times. Not all Outdoor Rinks have scheduled public skating times.

       General Outdoor Ice Rink Rules

Please follow all posted guidelines and rules for outdoor rink use:

      • Share the ice fairly, rinks are to be a safe and fun space for all users.
      • If playing shinny, game must be modified to not involve contact.
      • Outdoor rinks are unsupervised. Use at your own risk.
      • Parents/guardians must supervise their children at all times.
      • Be courteous and share the space with others.
      • Inspect ice surface and area prior to use.
      • Shovel the snow off the ice before/after you skate.
      • CSA hockey helmets are strongly recommended.
      • Please dispose of all garbage and help keep the area clean.

      When Do Rinks Open?

The opening of outdoor rinks is dependent on the weather. In order to form a base from which can be flooded, they require a significant amount of snow that contains more moisture in order to pack them, followed by consistently cold weather (-10°C or below) for at least a week. The groups of dedicated volunteers monitor the weather conditions and when they are favourable, they try to flood the outdoor rinks.
