A new home for Springwater’s firefighters: Township of Springwater celebrates grand opening of Fire Station 2

A new chapter has begun for Springwater Fire and Emergency Services as the Township of Springwater officially celebrated the grand opening of Fire Station 2, located at 1116 Snow Valley Road, in Midhurst, today, bringing together firefighters, Springwater Council, local dignitaries, municipal staff, and project partners to celebrate a significant investment in strengthening emergency response services in Springwater.

“This new fire station represents an investment in the safety and future of our community,” said Mayor Jennifer Coughlin. “It is more than a new building; it is a home for dedicated firefighters to answer the call when our residents need them most. I am incredibly proud to see this project come to life and grateful to everyone who played a role in making today possible.”

The new station provides Springwater Fire and Emergency Services with a modern facility designed to support firefighters and enhance their ability to respond to emergencies throughout the Township. The new fire hall features a four-bay apparatus area, along with support and vehicle maintenance sections, administration and training space, and a resident space featuring a kitchen, fitness space, day room, and sanitary facilities.

“This station is a tremendous addition to Springwater Fire and Emergency Services and, most importantly, to the community we serve,” said Jeff Kirk, Director of Fire and Emergency Services/Fire Chief. “Our firefighters dedicate their time and expertise to protecting our residents, often responding in the most challenging circumstances. This facility gives them the space, resources and infrastructure they need to train, prepare and effectively respond.”

The project reflects the Township’s ongoing investment in emergency services infrastructure and the long-term needs of the growing community. 

“Modern, well-designed fire stations are an important investment in both firefighter safety and public safety,” said Jeremy Parkin, President of the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs (OAFC). They provide fire services with the facilities and resources they need to train, prepare and respond effectively to emergencies. The Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs is proud to join Springwater Fire and Emergency Services in celebrating this new station and the commitment it represents to the firefighters who serve this community and to the residents who rely on them.”

The grand opening concluded with the cutting of the fire hose, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter for Springwater Fire and Emergency Services and the community it proudly serves.
