Township of Springwater receives provincial funding to launch free older adult programming

The Township of Springwater is pleased to announce that it has received $8,240 through the Province of Ontario’s Seniors Community Grant Program to introduce new free programming for older adults aged 55 and older, who reside within the Township of Springwater.

The funding, provided through the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, will allow the Township to expand opportunities for older adults to stay active, learn new skills, connect with others and participate in their community.

Beginning next week, the Township will introduce a variety of free programs and activities for older adults aged 55+ for aging well at home and at play.

The program will focus on providing older adults with practical information and resources to support safe, healthy and independent living. Topics will include personal safety, active living, health and wellness, safety and social connection.

"Investing in programs that support the health and well-being of our older residents is an important part of building a strong and connected community," said Mayor Jennifer Coughlin. "We are grateful to the Province of Ontario for this funding, which will allow us to introduce new recreational opportunities, encourage active living and bring residents together through programming designed with their interests and needs in mind."

“Older adults play a key role in strong, vibrant communities and it’s important that they have opportunities to stay active, connected and engaged,’ said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “This investment in Springwater will help residents aged 55 and older build connections, access helpful resources and enjoy a greater quality of life.”

“Programs like the Seniors Community Grant Program play an important role in helping older adults stay active, connected and engaged in their communities,” said Doug Downey, Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP). We know that creating opportunities for seniors to participate, socialize and remain independent has a positive impact on their quality of life. I’m pleased to see the Township continuing to build on these opportunities and introduce additional programs and activities throughout the fall, ensuring seniors have more ways to stay connected and involved.”

The Seniors Community Grant Program supports projects that help older adults stay connected to their communities and participate in activities that promote active and independent living. The Township will continue to introduce additional programs and activities as they become available throughout the fall.
