Watermain Flushing

Occurring in the spring and fall every year, the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) conducts flushing of the watermains throughout the Township of Springwater. This maintenance is essential to ensure the continued quality and reliability of our water systems.

It is very important that residents reduce water use during the flushing hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. to prevent drawing discoloured water or sediment into your home's plumbing. If you have appliances that use water on a timer (e.g., dishwashers, coffee makers, or sprinkler systems), please turn them off so that we may effectively complete maintenance on the water systems. 

Following the flushing of the watermains, residents may experience discoloured water and/or low water pressure coming from taps. If this happens, it is suggested that you try the following once flushing has been completed:

• Remove the tap aerators off your taps and flush all the house lines until the water runs clear. (Start with tap closest to incoming water line, end with tap furthest away. Ex. Start with laundry sink or basement bathroom, end with upstairs bathroom.)
• Flush out your hot water tanks. This is to remove the accumulated iron precipitate in the tank; this iron may also decrease the efficiency of your water tank.
