Policing services in Springwater are provided by the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police by way of a Section 5.1 – Non-Contract arrangement. Report a crime

The OPP's online Citizen Self Reporting tool allows you to report minor occurrences such as theft, mischief to property, lost property and driving complaints that occurred in areas policed by the OPP. All submissions will be sent directly to the OPP and reviewed by an officer. You can also call the OPP toll-free at 1-888-310-1122 or visit your local detachment to file a report.

Changes to OPP Detachment Board for Huronia West

In 2020, the Ontario government introduced new legislation that gave municipalities a greater say in what the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) does in their communities. Municipalities and First Nations within a common OPP Detachment were asked to work together to develop a shared proposal indicating the composition of their OPP Detachment Board(s). The Township of Springwater worked with the Town of Wasaga Beach and Township of Clearview to support the creation of an eleven member Board to serve the Huronia West catchment area. On October 11, 2022, the Province approved our proposed composition with:

two municipal representatives;
one community representative from each municipality; and,
two provincial appointees.

The Township is awaiting further instruction from the Province to begin making appointments to this Board.
